Summer Dreaming and “A Grand Day Out”

Summer is just around the corner, and we are all looking forward to sunshine and welcoming you and your family to our new summer programme here at Bluecoat Children’s Centre.  We have a full range of free activities and sessions for you and your family during the summer. Some of our sessions are open to families with children up to 8 (and in some instances, up to 11). The new programme is being finalised as we write this article and will be available on our website www.bluecoat.childrencentre.org

Sessions include lots of creative activity, mini Olympics, singing and music sessions. We will also be running our “Dreaming Out Loud” sessions in the centre, and out in the villages over the summer months (look out for a venue near you).

One of our exciting new sessions taking place in the summer is “Splish, Splash, Splosh” which focuses on the fun babies and children (and parents / carers) can have with water play. There are many more new and exciting sessions and activities running from July through to September, and some of the regular favourites. We are open 5 days a week during the summer, with something happening each of the days. So, please do come along and have fun with your children.

As part of our celebration of intergenerational families, we will be holding “A Grand Day Out” in August. If you would like further details, and are interested in taking part in this very traditional “A Grand Day Out”, please call into our centre and we would be happy to give you more details and add your name to the list of families who are interested in joining us on this day (buckets and spades at the ready!). Spaces will be limited for this trip.

We now have our free copies of “The Time Traveller’s Wife” to distribute as part of World Book Night. If you are interested in receiving a free copy of this exciting book please ask at reception in Bluecoat Children’s Centre. We also have free copies of “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie” available. We have limited copies so it is first come, first served.

Would you be interested in taking part in Family Learning or Adult education? We can arrange fun and interactive family and adult learning courses, in partnership with Adult education, from here in our Centre. If there is something you are interested in, please let us know and we will arrange them from September onwards. The courses will be small, intimate and informal with great support from your tutor in a relaxed and enjoyable environment. It may be a group of parents / carers are interested in learning more about creative writing, digital photography, website design and editorial skills so you can then help us to create our newsletters. If so, have a chat with us and we will arrange for training for you and support you to become the “Bluecoat editorial team”. You will also get a certificate along the way!

Our Café Central, here at Bluecoat Children’s Centre is putting together a programme of “special food activities”. So, look out for that programme on our website also. This includes Teddy bear picnics, interactive storytelling and global food tastings.

We hope you enjoy your time you and your child spend here together at Bluecoat Children’s Centre. If there is any group you would like us to provide that we are not providing at this moment in time, please speak with us and we will see if we can plan that into our sessions and activities for later in the year.

We hope to see you and your family at Bluecoat Children’s Centre and look forward to enjoying a wonderful summer with you.

Kind regards, Viv Jones - Bluecoat Children's Centre Leader and all the staff at Bluecoat Children’s Centre
